YUVA cannot be stopped. Because the organization is convinced: If you want to have a positive impact on India's future, you have to start with the people who will be its architects – children and young people.

In Gujarat, for example, the issues of water and sanitation are crucial for the development of their potential. YUVA uses smart measures and technologies to ensure that significantly fewer girls and boys drop out of school.

SMART IDEAS ARE MAKING HEADWAY IN GUJARAT.

YUVA was founded in 2005 as a volunteer organization that aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and the youth.

To this end, the organization visits schools, improves the infrastructure there, facilitates access to teaching and learning materials, and supports talented young students in their educational and training careers.

The importance of access to clean water and toilets for successful school attendance is evident in many public schools in India.

Many students, especially from marginalized families, drop out of school because they do not have access to clean water, visit the toilet or practice menstrual hygiene in the facilities.

SMART IDEAS ARE MAKING HEADWAY IN GUJARAT.

In the project funded by the Viega Foundation until March 2024, YUVA renovated the existing sanitary facilities in four schools around the city of Ahmedabad. For example, about 2,000 children were given safe access to toilets and water for washing their hands. In order to use as little water as possible in the process, a mobile container with filter technology is also used at the schools, which allows wastewater to be used several times as grey water (e.g., for flushing toilets).

Apart from the sanitation and water supply, YUVA also renovated other areas of the school, if necessary. For example, the team created areas for washing dishes, built shade structures in the schoolyard, or designed educational wall paintings that educate about hygiene practices. In addition, two further training sessions on hygiene practices were be funded per school.
